Mission

Founded in 1969, the Maritime Data Center Inc. (MDC) is a provider of business outsourcing solutions for the Canadian stevedoring industry.
In 2024, it is still the main central pay office of the stevedoring industry in Eastern Canada.

The organization is composed of 30 stevedoring companies for 25 collective agreements through offices located in Montreal, Hamilton and Halifax.

Its activities are related with the largest ports such as Montreal, Hamilton, Toronto, Trois-Rivières/Bécancour, Sorel, Rimouski, Sept-Îles, St-John (NB), Halifax, Sheet Harbour, St-John's (NL) and numerous small harbours.

As such, the MDC is working in partnership with employer associations like: Maritime Employers Association (MEA), Halifax Employers Association (HEA) and Port of Saint John Employers Association Inc (PSJEA).

Within the scope of its work, and in order to maintain a high level of competence, the organization is a member of the Canadian Payroll Association, the Conseil du Patronat du Québec (CPQ) and the Fédération des Chambres de Commerce du Québec (FCCQ).


In the form of a non-profit organization incorporated under Part II of the Canada Corporations Act, the MDC is owned by its members. Membership in the corporation is restricted to persons, firms and corporations employing longshoremen, checkers and any other class of workmen or employees engaged in work related to the business of loading or discharging vessels, containers and related services.
Membership is conditional upon unanimous approval of the application by its board of directors.
